Zane Booker

Master Ballet Instructor

Zane BookerHead of the Ballet Program at Savage Dance Company, Mr. Booker was recently recognized in the January 2007 issue of Dance Magazine as one of the Top 25 Dancers/Instructors to Watch Out For in 2007.

Recognized in the dance community as a master instructor in the fields of ballet and modern dance, Zane has studied dance for over 30 years. Zane began his dance training at the age of seven with the Philadelphia School of Dance Arts before pursuing a degree at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Zane was later accepted into the School of American Ballet in NY, where he was personally invited by Mikhail Baryshnikov to augment his studies at the American Ballet Theater. Zane later auditioned for and was accepted into the Netherlands Dance Theater. He spent the next six years dancing under the direction of Jiri Kylian.

In 1996, Zane joined the Les Ballets De Monte Carlo under the direction of Jean Christophe Maillot. Zane left Les Ballets De Monte Carlo in 1999 to accept invitations to appear with major ballet companies around the world, including the new National Theater of Tokyo, Philadanco, Complexions, Les Ballet De Monte Carlo, the Opera of Monte Carlo and Rhythmek. Zane has also choreographed and taught for universities, companies, operas, musical productions and conservatories in U.S., Europe, Africa and Australia.

After moving back to the U.S., Zane once again reunited with Mikhail Baryshnikov to dance in his White Oak Dance Project. In July 2004, Zane was asked to perform at the Broadway Theater Project’s tribute to the late Gregory Hines. Zane also performed the role created by Desmond Richardson in the “Fosse” Broadway production and then toured with the national company. Zane was also recently featured in Dance Magazine for his role in “Songs Without Words”. Zane currently runs his own professional ballet/modern company in Philadelphia which has been favorably recognized by the dance community.

Zane’s area of instruction at SDC include Advanced Level 3, 4 and 5 Ballet as well as choreography and intensive technique training for SDC’s Regional and National Competition Team.

SDC is very pleased to have Zane returning to provide his instruction and expertise to the dancers of SDC!
